Embark on an extraordinary voyage to the ‘lungs of the planet’, home to one in every 10 species of flora and fauna.

No explorer’s bucket list is complete without a trip to the world’s largest rainforest. From its wealth of biodiversity to its sheer size, the Amazon Rainforest is immense on all accounts. Even today, researchers continue to find new species of flora and fauna across this mighty expanse, and there are thousands of such discoveries still to be made. Spanning nine countries in South America, the Amazon Rainforest is best explored via a river expedition in Peru. This is the birthplace of the Amazon River, where the Ucayali and Marañon tributaries converge. Considered the region’s most pristine expanse, the river banks are always in view when sailing these narrow channels, allowing incredible opportunities to spot wildlife in the jungle canopies.

Aqua Expeditions operates two vessels in the Peruvian Amazon: the 20-suite Aqua Nera, a state-of-the-art river ship which draws inspiration from the region’s black water lagoons, and the 16-suite Aria Amazon, a classic explorer custom-built for comfort and luxury. Both ships offer a range of itineraries, with options for individual travelers as well as group and charter bookings. Enjoy twice-daily excursions led by expert guides to spot rare and endemic wildlife including pink dolphins, spider monkeys, caiman, sloths, and anacondas. While on board, relax in a luxurious suite or enjoy social spaces such as the spa, plunge pool, jacuzzi, gym, or movie room.

FAQ items
Question
Where is the Amazon river located? Which countries do our Amazon river cruises sail by?
Answer

The Amazon River, the largest river in the world by volume, is located in South America. It stretches over approximately 4,345 miles (7,062 kilometers), beginning in the Andes Mountains of Peru and flowing eastward across northern Brazil, eventually emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. Aqua Nera and Aria Amazon navigate the birthplace of the Amazon River, at the eastern tip of Peru's Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve where the Ucayali and Maranon rivers converge. This is considered to be the region's most pristine expanse as the river is closest to its glacial source in the Andes mountains.

Question
What does my all-inclusive Amazon cruise price include?
Answer

Our rates include all meals, non-alcoholic drinks, design suite accommodations, small-group excursions with expert guides, entrance fee to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, high-speed satellite internet, and laundry service. Selected wines and beer are complimentary on Aqua Nera as well. We also provide complimentary group transfers from/to the airport if you arrive and depart on the recommended flights.

Question
What should I pack on my Amazon River Cruise?
Answer

Life is casual on board the Aria Amazon and the Aqua Nera.
We recommend you to bring the following items:
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Quick drying and lightweight clothing
• Lightweight long pants
• Lightweight rain gear
• Long-sleeved tops for jungle excursions
• Wide-brimmed hat
• Sunscreen
• Extra socks
• Mosquito repellent with DEET 7 (OFF is recommended)
• Your camera! With charger, extra batteries and memory cards
• Bathing suit
• Binoculars 8x12
• Converters
Aqua Expeditions provides the following on board:
• Rubber boots for wetland excursions
• Waterproof ponchos with hoods to protect against rain.
• A hairdryer in every suite
• Our vessels have 220-volt outlets in the staterooms

Question
Do you have cell, satellite connection or Internet connectivity on board?
Answer

All Amazon cruises are equipped with internal telephones for communication between suites and for onboard services. In case of emergency onboard during the night, please contact the Cruise Director. If you need to contact your home or office in an emergency, Aqua Mekong is equipped with a satellite phone. The cost of your call may be paid directly on board. We will inform you, prior to calling, of the current price of an international call. Our vessels offer complimentary access to high-speed Wi-Fi.

Question
What are the recommended flight timings for the Amazon river cruises?
Answer

Guests are advised to book arrival and departure flights on the days of embarkation and disembarkation respectively. On the day of embarkation, guests are recommended to fly on LATAM LA2019, which departs from Lima at 11:40 a.m. and arrives at Iquitos at 1:30 p.m. For disembarkation, guests are recommended to fly on LATAM LA2038 which departs from Iquitos at 2:10 p.m. and arrives at Lima at 3:55 p.m. Aqua Expeditions staff will be present at these recommended times to provide assistance.

If the recommended flights are unavailable, guests are advised to book the next available flight that arrives in Iquitos after the suggested arrival time. For the return, we recommend choosing the earliest available flight that departs before the recommended departure time.

Guests arriving in Iquitos later than the recommended flight must arrange a private transfer, which may incur additional charges.

Question
Do I need a visa for Peru? Is there any required vaccination before traveling?
Answer

Refer to the official website of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for information about visa requirements, procedures, and mandatory vaccinations. Please ensure that all necessary requirements are met prior to your sailing on board Aqua Nera or Aria Amazon.

Question
Should I buy travel insurance for my trip to Peru?
Answer

Guests are strongly advised to purchase trip cancelation insurance, which will reimburse the cost of air tickets and other non-refundable trip payments. International medical, baggage loss, and delay insurance are also recommended. Insurance companies such as Travel Guard and Allianz are options that guests may consider.

Unfortunately, we are unable to refund your booking should you miss your vessel departure due to any weather-related flight cancellation since flight cancellations are beyond our control and we are required to comply with our schedules.

Question
How old do you have to be to cruise on the Amazon river cruise?
Answer

The minimum recommended age for children is 5 years old. Guests must be at least 18 years of age to travel without their parents or guardians. If any occupant in the suite is under 18, then a guest of at least 18 years old must be booked in the same suite. The only exception is that guests under age 18 may be allowed to have their own suite if they are in an interconnected suite shared by their parents or guardians.

Question
Is there any difference between the lower and upper-deck suites?
Answer

The lower- and upper-deck suites are identical in design on board both Aqua Nera and Aria Amazon. The only difference is how close you will be to the river level as we sail along the Amazon River and its tributaries.

All 20 suites on Aqua Nera measure 322sqft, featuring panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, luxurious fittings, and a deluxe ensuite bathroom. On the other hand, all 16 suites on Aria Amazon measure 250sqft, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and an en suite bathroom. Both vessels offer the option of interconnecting suite layouts, with distinct living and sleeping spaces.

The rates for second-deck suites are slightly higher than those on the first deck as they are closer to the ships' social areas such as the lounge and observation deck.

Question
What if I have special dietary needs?
Answer

Our talented chefs are well-versed in a variety of preparations and can cater to vegetarian, vegan, kosher, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets, as well as other more specific preferences. Whether it’s allergies, dietary restrictions, or lifestyle preferences, our team will do their best to serve you world-class meals of your choice. You will have the option to specify your dietary needs when completing the online check-in for your expedition.
